By God, For You

Every sweet success of mine

Every failure too

Every brick upon my path

Was laid by God for you

Each missed opportunity

Ones that made me cry

And ask if I was good enough

And made me wonder why

Merely “do not enter” signs

Not mine to pass through

For every brick upon my path

Was laid by God for you

He led me to a thorny bush

So I would know that pain

Couldn’t stop me in my tracks

Or veer me from my lane

This made my skin so very thick

Enough to shield you too

For every brick upon my path

Was laid by God for you

He took my heart down broken roads

To secrets and to lies

By showing me what love is not

He helped me recognize

Your dad is who He made for me

Our love forever true

For every brick upon my path

Was laid by God for you

He made me love to research

He made me love to read

When your life was on the line

I found answers that you need

He thinned the fog around us

And gave me a clear view

For every brick upon my path

Was laid by God for you

He made me fight so often

So I would be prepared

To fight your battles everyday

And never get too scared

He knew I’d never rest until

You managed to pull through

For every brick upon my path

Was laid by God for you

He gave you my pretty eyes

And lord, my temper too

He gave you Dada’s golden heart

And clever mind, He knew

That you were destined to be great

With grand dreams to pursue

For every brick upon my path

Was laid by God for you

I cannot see your path my love

For mine will end before

I’ll walk beside you up until

I knock on heaven’s door

And then I’ll see it from above

And have a better view

Of every brick upon your path

That God has laid for you
